Welcome to our Web page which represents the resurrection of Musica Sacra et Profana, a publisher of early music editions from April 1974 to 1983. The firm has been inactive until now. The MSEP policy is to offer distinctive and inexpensive performance editions of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music. Our music is edited for recorder, other early wind instruments and viols.

Each edition contains an editor's commentary on the music and composers. Practical performance and interpretive suggestions are provided and texts for the pieces are included whenever possible. The commentary also includes translations.

Some Abbreviations and Explanations

MSEP publications have catalog numbers which indicate the number of parts in the music: thus, 3004 is 3-part music and the last number indicates the fourth publication in the 3-part series. The parts abreviations include:
 a2 = 2-part,  a3 = 3-part,  a4 = 4-part,  a5 = 5-part, etc.
 
The following explains the preface lettering used with the order numbers:
C = Collection
M = Miscellaneous
KR = Keyboard, Renaissance
KB = Keyboard, Baroque
B = Baroque work, instruments + B.C.
Bu = Baroque pieces sans B.C.
Bm = Baroque, arrangements, etc.

In the listing of editions which follow, there are descriptive comments for each edition indicating the general level of playing difficulty for the music. The follow abbreviations indicate the playing levels.
    VE = very easy
    E = easy
    MD = moderate difficulty
    .
     D = difficult
    QD = quite difficult
